The
University of Oxford first Black woman Rhodes Scholar
Karen Stevenson is
the first Black woman awarded a Rhodes scholarship in
1979 to attend the University of Oxford. She studied
modern history at Magdalen College, now residing in Los
Angles, Karen is a corporate lawyer.
As one of the scholars featured on the award winning Black
Oxford guided heritage walking tour, we are delighted to
have Karen join us for the afternoon. Karen discussed her experiences of being the first Black
woman Rhodes Scholar, and her experiences at the University
and her work today.
